#22 Lady Rams Win Streak Snapped at Fayetteville State Tuesday

Fayetteville, N.C. -  The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team's win streak is snapped at sixteen, as they fall to Fayetteville State University 72-52, inside the Felton J. Capel Arena. 

The Rams moved to (16-2, 7-1 CIAA, 2-1 South) on the season.

Makayla Waleed led the Rams with a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds, followed by Nevaeh Farmer chipping in with 14 points. 

Quick Inside the Numbers

The Rams went 18-of-74 from the field, 5-of-25 from three, and 16-of-19 from the free-throw line. The Rams grabbed 50 rebounds, scored 20 points in the paint, forced 17 turnovers, scored 10 points off turnovers, and had 12 steals. 

 How It Happened

In the first quarter, Makayla Waleed put the Rams on the board 3-0 with a three-pointer (8:38). A TaNiya Simms jumper gave the Rams a 7-5 lead (2:29). WSSU took a 9-7 into the first quarter. 

In the second quarter, FSU tied the game at 13-13 with a lay-up (6:33). The Broncos went on a 9-3 run, taking a 22-16 lead on a three-pointer (4:13). The Rams answered back with a 5-0 run, cutting the lead to 22-21 on a Makayla Waleed three-pointer (1:19). A three-pointer as time expired gave the Broncos a 29-25 lead into halftime. 

In the third quarter, two Nevaeh Farmer free-throws tied at 29-29 (9:15). FSU went on a 6-0 run, taking a 35-29 lead on a lay-up (7:02). The Broncos went on a 8-3 run, extending their lead to 47-36 on a lay-up (3:25). Nevaeh Farmer hit a three-pointer, cutting the lead to 50-41 (2:09). FSU took a 55-44 lead into the fourth quarter. 

In the fourth quarter, the Rams went on a 5-0 run, chipping the lead down to 55-50 on two Maia Charles free-throws (7:47). The Broncos went on a 9-0 run, extending their lead to 64-50 on a lay-up (4:14). FSU lead grew out to 68-51 on a lay-up (3:18). WSSU couldn't cut the deficit back to 10 points.

The Lady Rams will host Johnson C. Smith University on January 29. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
