#1S Lady Rams Face-Off Against #4N Bluefield State in CIAA Tournament Quarterfinal Wednesday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The #1SLady Rams will take on the #4N Bluefield State University in the CIAA Quarterfinals on February 25. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:20 p.m. inside the CFG Bank Arena.

Series Information vs Bluefield State University

Since 2011 the Rams currently lead the series 4-1. This will be the second meeting between the Rams and Big Blue. Last time, the Rams defeated the Big Blue 81-64 on January 7.

New Coaching Staff: WSSU women's basketball enters a new era under the leadership of Coach Tierra Terry, no stranger to the CIAA as she was the head coach at Virginia Union. Coach Terry is also a graduate and former player for Winston-Salem State. She added coach Jessica Freeman and Dylan Anderson to her staff in the off-season.

Ram Returners: The Rams brought back seven returners from last year's squad: sophomore Alana Biosse, junior Zion Dixon, and seniors Kierran Walker, Alexandria Warren, Jakaiya Mack, Chloe Williams and Jahmaria Miles.

Ram Newcomers: During the off-season, WSSU welcomed in nine newcomers: freshman TaNiya Simms, Kloe Thompson, Taylor Simpson, Breonna Roaf, Amari Kilgore-Baldwin, sophomore Ah'Kiyah Pye, junior Neveah Farmer, senior Makayla Waleed and transfer sophomore Maia Charles.

CIAA Preseason/Polls:

The Lady Rams were selected to finish seventh in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) preseason poll. Jakaiya Mack was named to the preseason team.

CIAA Weekly Awards

· Ah'Kiyah Pye was named CIAA Rookie of the Week for week three.

· Breonna Roaf was named CIAA Rookie of the Week for week four.

· Ah'Kiyah Pye was named CIAA Rookie of the Week for week five.

· Makayla Waleed was named CIAA Defensive Player of the Week for week six, while teammate Breonna Roaf was named CIAA Rookie of the Week.

· Maia Charles was named CIAA Player of the Week, while Amari Baldwin was named Rookie of the Week for week eight.

· Both Maia Charles and Nevaeh Farmer were named to the All-CIAA Second Team.

WBCA Coaches Poll

The Lady Rams were ranked 19th in the WBCA Coaches Poll this week.

Last Time Out

The Lady Rams fell to Livingstone 61-54 on February 21. Alana Biosse led the Rams with a season-high 16 points, followed by Breonna Roaf with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Maia Charles chipped in with nine points and a season-high 19 rebounds.

Scouting Report:

The Rams are led in scoring by Maia Charles, averaging 13.3 points, followed by Makayla Waleed with 10.5 points, and Nevaeh Farmer with 9.8 points. WSSU is averaging 66.5 points per game.

Bluefield State University (15-11, 8-8 CIAA, 5-5 North)

The Big Blue defeated Shaw 82-56 in the first round of the CIAA Tournament on February 24. Jasmine Jerkins leads the Big Blue in scoring with 15.4 points per game, followed by Jhakia Gist with 11.3 points per game. BSU is averaging 78.7 points per game.
