TOWSON, MD - The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team closed out the 2006 portion of their schedule with an 80-59 loss to the Tigers of Towson University on Friday evening in Towson, Maryland.
The loss moves the Rams to 1-16 on the season while the Tigers improve to 6-5 overall with the win.
Winston-Salem State led in the contest only one time as the Rams held their largest, and only, lead of the evening just 2:08 into the game, ahead by three points.
The Tigers then mounted a run which regained them the lead, one that they would never relinquish as they pushed their advantage to as many as 24 points with 41 seconds remaining in the contest.
The Rams turned in another chilly shooting performance from the field as they hit only 23 of their 70 field goal attempts en route to posting a shooting percentage of 32.9% as WSSU drops to 0-13 on the season when shooting less than 40% from the field.
Despite the loss, WSSU freshman guard Brian Fisher continues to impress as he recorded a career-high 27 points on 11 of 22 shooting from the field including a stellar five-of-nine performance from behind the three-point line as he led the Rams with 27 points and five rebounds.
The Tigers were led by Gary Neal's 26 points as he led four Tigers into double figures.
The Rams return to action on January 3, 2007 as they open the New Year with a matchup versus Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA.
