Final Stats
BALTIMORE, Md. - Brian Fisher's three-pointer with six seconds to play did not find the mark as Winston-Salem State University's bid to tie the game fell just short on Friday evening as the Morgan State University Bears snuck out a 53-50 win at Hill Field House in Baltimore, Maryland.
The Rams (1-18) trailed by as many as 11 points to the Bears but refused to quit as they battled back to take a two-point lead late in the second half as they held a 50-48 advantage with four minutes to play in the contest.
However, the Bears held the Rams scoreless for the final four minutes of play as Morgan State mounted a game-clinching 5-0 run en route to the three-point, 53-50 victory.
A Jamar Smith three-point play followed by another Smith jump shot and a Rogers Barnes' free-throw catapulted the Bears to their third victory of the season and relegated the Rams to 1-18 on the season as WSSU recorded their 15th consecutive loss, tying a school record that was set during the 1991-92 season.
The Rams were led by Brian Fisher's 14 points as he and Darius Floyd (13 points) were the only two WSSU players in double-digits in scoring. WSSU also received six points from Norman Carter in the loss.
The Bears were led by Ronald Timus who recorded 13 points in the win as WSSU allowed only one double-figure scorer for Morgan State.
The loss drops WSSU to 1-18 on the season while Morgan State improves to 3-9 with the victory.
WSSU returns to action on Sunday, December 7, 2007 when they play host to Ferrum College at the C.E. Gaines Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 pm.
