Box Score 2 WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams split a double header with the Indiana (Pa) Crimson Hawks, 6-5 and 1-3 Saturday at BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem.
Game #1
The Crimson Hawks jumped out to the an early lead, as they were able to plate a run in the second inning to go ahead 1-0.
The Rams answered back in the bottom half of the inning with runs, starting with Gavin Culler scoring on a wild pitch and Dylan Dombrowskas knocking in Connor Andrus to give the Rams a 2-1 lead.
Indiana (Pa) answered back with one of their own, as Rick Jones brought home Ryan Uhl came around to score, making the score 2-2.
Phillip Page would double to left center, scoring Des Roberts. Colby Keene would drive home a run on a bases loaded hit by pitch, giving the Rams a 4-2 advantage.
In the sixth, it looked as if the Crimson Hawks would blow the game open, as they would plate three runs on three hits to take a 5-4 lead headed into the bottom of the ninth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, Jacob Barber singled to start the inning. With two outs, Colby Keene would reach on an error by the left fielder,and eventually would come around to score, givng the WSSU Rams a 6-5 win.
Eric Corlett picked up the win for the Rams, going 2.0 innings, allowing four hits and three runs, while striking out three. Nathan Steger pitched 5.0 innings, allowing three hits, two run (1 er), while striking out four.
Gavin Culler, Phillip Page, Alex Grubb and Colby Keene each finished one for five, with Culler and Keene scoring a run. Keene also scored a run and drove in a run, while Page drove in a run and Culler scored a run. Dylan Dombrowskas went one for four with a rub batted in.
Game #2
In the first inning, IUP jumped out on the Rams early, as Scott Hess gave the Crimson Hawks the lead with a solo homerun to left field in the first inning. IUP picked up its second run in the third inning, capitalizing on an infield error to take a 2-0 lead.
WSSU got one back in the third inning, as Connor Andrus would drive a run home on a sacrifice fly, scoring Taylor Idol, to cur into the IUP lead, at 2-1.
IUP would score one run one run in the seventh, as Zac LaNeve would come around to score, giving the Crimson Hawks a 3-1 advantage.
WSSU would not be able to plate another run, and the Rams would fall, 3-1.
With the loss, WSSU falls to 6-3 overall, while the Crimson Hawks improve to 2-2.
