FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (1-2, 1-2 CIAA) picked up a big win, Tuesday afternoon when the team took a dominating 8-1 win at Fayetteville State. With the win, the Lady Rams score their first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division win.
The Lady Rams took the win in a dominating fashion when they swept doubles play. After getting a win by default at #3 doubles, the Lady Rams kept the momentum going with an 8-1 win at #2 doubles. The team went on to complete the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at #1 singles.
From there, the Lady Rams continued to roll with some stellar play in singles play. After getting a default victory at #6 singles, freshman Aja Grant and freshman Zakia Spencer both took home 6-0, 6-0 wins at #4 and #5 singles respectively. Junior Gabriel Lindsay took a 6-1, 6-0 win at #3 singles while sophomore Deja Stewart took a 6-0, 6-1 win at #2 singles as well.
With the win, the Lady Rams improve to 1-2 overall and 1-2 in CIAA play. The team also improves to 1-0 in the CIAA Southern Division. The Lady Rams will return to action Saturday when the head to Raleigh, N.C. to take on the Shaw Lady Bears.
