WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (4-4, 4-4 CIAA) rolled to their third straight win when the team took an impressive 8-1 win over the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos (1-5, 1-5 CIAA), Thursday afternoon. The win was the third straight win for the Lady Rams and improved the team to 2-2 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division.
The Lady Rams got things started in an impressive fashion when the team took three doubles wins. After taking a default win at #3 doubles, the Lady Rams took wins at #1 and #2 doubles. The duo of senior Devan Corpening and freshman Aja Grant took an 8-0 win at #2 doubles and the sophomore tandem of Deja Stewart and Gabrielle Lindsay took an 8-1 win at #1 doubles.
The momentum carried over into singles play. Stewart and freshman Zakia Spencer got things started with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins at #2 and #5 singles. Freshman Aja Grant added a 6-0, 6-2 win while Lindsay took a 6-1, 6-1 win at #3 singles. The efforts, combined with a default win at #6 singles rounded out the 8-1 WSSU victory.
