WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (5-5, 5-5 CIAA) took a dominating 8-1 win over the Livingstone Blue Bears (2-11, 2-10 CIAA), Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Rams won the battle of two weary teams as the Lady Rams played their second match in three days while Livingstone was playing in its third match in three days.
The Lady Rams kicked things off with a sweep of doubles play. After taking a default win at #3 doubles, the Lady Rams took back-to-back wins at #2 and #1 doubles. Senior Devan Corpening and freshman Aja Grant took an 8-0 win at #2 doubles while sophomores Gabrielle Lindsay and Deja Stewart took an 8-1 win at #1 doubles.
The Lady Rams kept things going in singles play. After taking another default win at #6 singles, the Lady Rams followed things up when sophomore Anye Waters took a 6-1, 3-0 lead before her opponent retired. Grant also took a win by retirement after taking a 6-0, 3-0 lead at #2 singles. Lindsay added a 6-0, 6-0 win before Corpening took a 6-1, 6-0 win at #2 singles to wrap up the 8-1 victory.
With the win, the Lady Rams improve to 5-5 overall and 5-5 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The team improves to 2-3 in the CIAA Southern Division. The Lady Rams will return to action, Friday when they face local rival Salem College in a non-conference match-up.
