Box Score SALISBURY, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams were on the wrong end of a 19-1 drubbing from #4 Catawba University on Wednesday evening, at Newman Park.
The loss drops the WSSU Rams to 22-9, while Catawba improves to 28-6 overall.
Catawba took advantage of WSSU errors and five walks, to go along with timely hitting, to pull away from the Rams with a seven run fourth and a six run fifth inning.
Winston-Salem State's only run in the game came in the fifth inning, when Alex Grubb led off with a solo home run to center field.
Alex Grubb led the Rams at the plate, going three for four with a run scored and one run batted in, while Gavin Culler finished two for four. Colby Keene went one for four on the evening, as the Rams were held to just six hits.
Jordan Carlton picked up the loss for WSSU, going 3.1 innings, allowing eight hits, seven runs (five earned), while striking out two. Aaron Hatch went 0.2 innings, allowing three hits and two runs, while Austin Cole went 0.1 innings, allowing two runs and two walks. Hayden O'Neal allowed four runs on four hits with a walk, and Dylan Forbes went 1.2 innings allowing no runs and no hits, with a strikeout. Eric Corlett would go 0.2 innings allowing two runs on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts, and Tyler Scearce finished the game going 1.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit.
