Box Score 2 WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Winston-Salem State University pounded out 37 runs on the afternoon, as the Rams pummeled the Bluefield State Blues, 12-3, and 25-0 in a double header sweep on Senior Day at BB&T Ballpark.
Winston-Salem State improves to 27-12, while Bluefield state fall to 8-21 on the season.
In game one, WSSU scored twice in the first inning, twice in the second and three times in the third inning, to jump out to an early 7-1 advantage, and then exploded for five runs in the sixth to take game one 12-3.
Jacob Barber drove in three runs, going 2 for 4, while Colby Keene and Connor Andrus each drove in two runs. Keene went 1 for 3, with three runs scored and Andrus was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Nathan Steger was 3 for 5 with one rbi, and Alex Grubb was 2 for 3 with one rbi and two runs scored. Rashad Webster went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and one run batted in. Taylor Idol had a hit and Des Roberts also had one run batted in. Conner Andrus and Alex Grubb each had a home run, while Des Roberts, Colby Keene, Alex Grubb, Rashad Webster and Taylor idol each had a stolen base.
Devin McLemore picked up the win, going 6.0 innings allowing five hits and two earned runs with eight strikeouts. Eric Corlett pitched the final inning striking out one.
In game two, WSSU pounded out 25 runs on 22 hits, including a 8 run first inning and a 12 run third inning, for a 25-0 blasting of Bluefield State.
Colby Keene had five runs batted in, going 3 for 5 with two runs scored, while Rashad Webster went 3 for 3 with two runs scored and four runs batted in. Jacob Barber and Michael McNamara each drove in three runs, as Barber went 1 for 3 with three runs scored, and McNamara went 2 for 5 with three runs scored. Taylor idol also drove in three runs, going 4 for 5 with three runs scored as well. Des Roberts was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two run batted in. Connor Bodenhamer, Alex Grubb, Chris Kane and Jordan Cummings each had a run batted in. Des Roberts, Colby Keene, Nathan Steger, Michael McNamara, Dylan Dombrowskas and Taylor Idol each had doubles, and Jacob Barber had a home run.
Tyler Scearce earned the win, going 4.0 innings, allowing three hits, three walks and five strikeouts, while Dylan Forbes went 1.0 allowing two hits. Austin Cole pitched an inning with two strikeouts, and Sam Burton closed the game out with a hitless ninth inning, striking out one.
Winston-Salem State will travel to Lander University on Tuesday, before traveling to Raleigh to the St. Augustine's Falcons in a weekend four game set.
