GREENSBORO, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (7-7, 7-6 CIAA) closed out the 2015 regular season with a bang when the team took an impressive 7-2 win over the Elizabeth City State Vikings (0-11, 0-11 CIAA). The Lady Rams took the win in a dominating fashion as they won all but one set in the entire match.
After allowing a pair of forfeit points at #3 doubles and #6 singles, the Lady Rams rolled to the win, winning every other point in the match. The sophomore tandem of Gabrielle Lindsay and Deja Stewart kicked things off when they won #1 doubles with an 8-0 victory while senior Devan Corpening and freshman Aja Grant won #2 doubles with an 8-0 win of their on.
The Lady Rams carried their dominating efforts into singles play when sophomore Zakia Spencer, Stewart, Lindsay, and Grant all took 6-0, 6-0 wins at #6, #2, #3, and #4 singles respectively. Corpening closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win at #1 singles.
With the win, the Lady Rams improve to 7-7 overall and 7-6 in CIAA play. The team will close out the regular season ranked third in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division and fifth in the conference. The team will begin the postseason when they take part in the 2015 CIAA Women's Tennis Championship Tournament in Charlotte, N.C.
