Box Score GLENVILLE, W V – Winston-Salem State hit the long ball and got another stellar outing from its pitchers, as the Rams took a 12-1 victory on the road this afternoon in Glenville, WV.
The WSSU Rams have now won 20 of their last 21 games, and improved to 25-12, while Glenville State falls to 10-19.
The Rams got on the board in the second inning, when Randy Norris singled, allowing Michael McNamara to score.
WSSU added another run in the third, when Randal Ortiz doubled, scoring Emilio Abreu.
The Rams picked up some breathing room in the fourth, when Ivan Acuna hit a two run home run, also scoring Randy Norris to give WSSU a 4-0 lead.
WSSU would blow the game open in the fifth inning, when Brandon Ford tripled, scoring Randy Norris and Michael McNamara, and Ford would come home on an error by the shortstop.
Winston-Salem State rubbed salt in the would in the seventh when Brandon Ford hit a two run home run, Ivan Acuna hit his second home run and Emilio Abreu also hit a home run for back to back to back home runs, and gave WSSU an 11-1 lead
Glenville State got on the scoreboard with a home run in the eighth inning, but the Rams answered when Randal Ortiz doubled to left field, scoring Ivan Acuna, to give WSSU the final score of 12-1.
Ivan Acuna went five for six with three runs batted in and three runs scored, and Brandon Ford went two for six with two runs scored and four runs batted in. Randal Ortiz finished three for five with two runs batted in. Landon Steiner went two for six, and Emilio Abreu went three for four with two runs scored and one run batted in, while Randy Norris went one for three with three runs scored and one run batted in.Trevor Poole and Matt Mauldin each went one for three. Michael McNamara scored twice.
Seth Reeves got the win for WSSU out of the bullpen. The starter, Kanoa Hironaka, went 3.0 innings, allowing two hits and striking out two. Marcus McKoy pitched 2.1 innings out of he pen, giving up three hits and one run while striking out two, and Landon Steiner pitched a solid ninth, striking out one.
