FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (2-2, 1-0 CIAA) opened Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division play with a 9-0 win over the Fayetteville State Broncos (2-3, 2-1 CIAA), Tuesday afternoon. The win gives the Rams their first shutout victory of the season an opens conference play on a high note.
The Rams got things started with a dominating effort in doubles play. The duo of senior Alexus Morgan and sophomore China Brown got things started with a 9-0 win at #2 doubles before junior Cylah Gaither and Avion Harris added an 8-1 win at #3 doubles. The tandem of senior Aja Grant and freshman Taylor Champion rounded things out with an 8-6 win at #1 doubles.
The great efforts carried over into singles play where the Rams got six wins. Grant, Champion, and junior China Brown all took 8-0 wins at #2, #3, and #4 singles. Morgan and Gaither both took 8-1 wins at #1 and #6 singles.
With the win, the Rams improve to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in CIAA play. More importantly, the Rams gain a key CIAA Southern Division victory.
