Rams Struggle Late in 14-4 Loss at Anderson (S.C.)

Box Score

ANDERSON, SC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (0-14) had no answers in a 14-4 loss to the hard-hitting Anderson (S.C.) Trojans (15-6), Wednesday afternoon. The Rams kept the game close, but a late rally by the Trojans put the game out of reach for WSSU.

As a team, the Rams had a solid effort at the plate. The Rams totaled seven hits in the game, but could only get four runs across the plate in the tough loss. WSSU sophomore Erica Davis led the way for the Rams with a two-for-three batting effort with two RBI in the game. Three more Rams recorded doubles in the game as well.

After getting off to a slow start, the Rams bounced back to tie the game before a late slump cost the Rams the loss. Things got tough early for the Rams with the team allowing four first inning runs to the Trojans. The team soon answered with a four-run third inning that tied the game. WSSU sophomore Daijah Chambers got things started when she hit an RBI double to score freshman centerfielder Nyla Howard. Senior designated player Samantha Gibbs added an RBI single up the middle to score Chambers in turn. Davis added a two-RBI single of her own to score junior Jasmine Holloman and freshman pinch runner Destiny Middleton. Things got tough for the Rams as the team allowed a third inning run to the Trojans and nine fifth inning runs to seal the 14-4 loss.

Davis (0-5) took the pitching loss. She started the game and went 3.1 innings with nine runs allowed, seven earned on eight hits. She also had a strikeout with two walks allowed. Freshman Tia Robinson came in for 0.2 innings with five runs allowed, five earned, on four hits with a strikeout and a walk.

With the loss, the Rams fall to 0-14 overall. The two teams would go on to complete the doubleheader later in the day.
