BOWIE, MD – The Winston-Salem State Rams (10-8) advanced to the semifinal round of the 2018 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Tennis Championship Tournament in dominating fashion when the team took a 5-0 win over the Virginia Union Panthers (10-8), Thursday. The Rams took the win behind a great performance in the match.
The duo of freshman Avion Harris and sophomore Cylah Gaither got things started with an 8-0 win at #2 doubles while the team took 8-2 wins at #1 and #3 doubles to go ahead 3-0 heading into singles play. WSSU's junior China Brown took a 6-0, 6-0 win at #4 singles before senior Aja Grant closed the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #3 singles.
With the win, the Rams improve to 10-8 and advance to the semifinal round of the tournament. The Rams will take on the top-seeded Shaw Lady Bears in a 12:30 p.m. match, tomorrow.
