Rams Take a 9-0 Loss to Kutztown

Box Score

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Rams (5-11) put on an aggressive effort, but the team struggled in a 9-0 loss to the Kutztown Golden Bears (6-5), Saturday afternoon. The Rams had a tough time getting their offense going as the team was held to just one hit in the shutout loss to the Bears.

As a team, the Rams could not find a way to hit the ball very much, but the team had some solid stretches of defense during the game. WSSU junior outfielder Nyla Howard was the only WSSU player to notch a hit in the game as she went one-for-two with a double.

The Rams started their solid defensive effort early in the game, but as the game went on, the team had a hard time holding off the hard-charging Golden Bears. The Rams held the Golden Bears scoreless in the first inning of the game and only one second inning run. A solo home run was all that the Rams would allow to the Golden Bears in the second inning that also include a highlight reel line out to sophomore third base Alleigh Himes. In the third inning, the Rams held the Golden Bears to just two runs allowed, including getting an out at home plate when the Golden Bears attempted to steal home. In the fourth inning, the Rams allowed a bases-loaded walk before an RBI fielder's choice left the Rams trailing, 5-0. Things did not go so well for the Rams in the fifth inning when WSSU allowed four runs on back-to-back home runs by the Golden Bears. Unfortunately, the Rams were not able to get any runs on the scoreboard in the fifth inning to keep the game going.

WSSU redshirt-freshman pitcher Anastasia Morrison (3-3) took the pitching loss for the Rams. She started the game and threw all five innings. She finished the game with nine runs allowed (nine earned) with three strikeouts.

With the loss, the Rams fall to 5-11. The team will return to action, tomorrow when the Rams take on the Bloomsburg Huskies in a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader. For more information on Rams softball, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2143 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
