ELON, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team showed great potential in an exhibition game with Elon University Tuesday night falling 70-59.
Makayla Waleed led the Rams with 22 points on 5-12 shooting including 11-14 from the free-throw line, along with 5 rebounds and 5 steals.
Nevaeh Farmer scored 10 points going 3-5 from the field and 2-2 from deep, plus 3 rebounds.
The Rams got off to a slow start, scoring only 7 points in the first quarter, while Elon jumped out to a 16-point opening lead. By halftime it was 39–22 in favor of Elon.
In the third quarter, WSSU made a push (21 points in that quarter) but couldn't fully bridge the gap. Elon held on with a 13-point advantage in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
The Rams will open its regular season on November 16 at North Carolina A&T State University.
