#18 Women’s Basketball Breaks School Record with 21st Win Defeating Claflin

Winston-Salem, N.C. -  The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team defeated Claflin University 55-40, inside the C.E. Gaines Center.

The Rams improved to 21-2 (12-1 CIAA, 6-1 South) on the season.

This win sets the school record for most wins in a season, surpassing the 1997-98 team's 20 wins.

Navaeh Farmer led the Rams with a season-high 24 points, followed by Makayla Waleed chipping in with seven points.

The Rams went 20-of-66 from the field, 3-of-15 from three, and 12-of-21 from the free-throw line, grabbed 43 rebounds, and forced 30 turnovers.
 
 How It Happened
In the first quarter, an Alana Biosse lay-up tied the game at 5-5 (7:15). The Panthers closed the quarter on a 13-3 run, taking an 18-5 lead into the second quarter. 

In the second quarter, the Rams went on a 7-0 run, cutting the lead to 18-15 on a Maia Charles lay-up (7:05). Claflin extended their lead to 25-19 on a three-pointer (1:47). Claflin took a 25-21 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Rams went on a 9-2 run, taking a 30-27 lead on two Breonna Roaf free throws (5:07). WSSU extended its lead to 34-28 on a Ah'Kiyah Pye (3:54). WSSU took a 39-34 lead into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter, a Navaeh Farmer three-pointer gave the Rams a 44-36 (4:48). The Rams closed the game on an 11-4 run. The last time the Rams had a 20-win season was the 1997-98 season.

The Lady Rams will conclude their home slate on February 14, taking on Shaw University on Senior Night. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
