PETERSBURG, Va. – On day one of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championships, the Winston-Salem State University women's outdoor track and field team goes into day two in second place with a score of 56, followed by Virigina State University with 46. Fayetteville State University leads with a score of 59.26.
Rainn Sheppard led the way capturing first place in the 1500m with a season-best and school record time of 4:31.94.
Also, running in the 1500m,
Elicia Bryant captured fourth place with a season-best time of 4:46.46.
Ava Millner came in sixth place with a personal-best time of 4:52.07.
Kayla Nobles also ran a personal-best time of 5:07.51 to finish in 10th place.
Two Rams,
Charnessa Reid (13.81)and
Layla Simpson (14.43) qualified for the 100mh finals finishing in second and seventh respectively.
Olivia Cosby (56.26),
Asheika Smith (56.27), and Leigh wills (57.73) all qualified for the 400m finals finishing in second, third and eighth place, respectively.
Brianna Benloss qualified for the 100m finals finishing in sixth place with a time of 12.09.
Lanyjah Gunter won the long jump with a mark of 5.93m and
Charnessa Reid came in second place with a mark of 5.93m.
Leila Henderson came in eighth place in shot put with a mark of 12.21m.
Rainn Sheppard (2:13.30), Ava Miller (2:14.45), and
Elicia Bryant (2:17.88) all qualified for the 800m finals after finishing in first, second and sixth place, respectively.
Jaynissa Cauthen qualified for the 400mh after finishing third in prelims with a time of 1:02.50.
Henderson also captured second place in the discus with a mark of 43.40m, teammate
Kaylee Thomas finished in seventh place with a mark of 38.01.
Reid finished in fourth place in the high jump with a mark of 1.55m.
