Final Stats
WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Every player in uniform scored for the Rams of Winston-Salem State University Rams on Thursday evening at the C.E. Gaines Center as they easily cruised by the University of District of Columbia by the score of 83-45 in non-conference basketball action.
The Rams jumped out to an early 11-1 lead only four minutes into the contest before allowing the Firebirds to mount an 12-1 run of their own as UDC earned their only lead of the game at 13-12.
WSSU immediately forged ahead behind the hot three-point shooting of senior guard Alleggrie Guinn (Charlotte, NC) who put the Rams ahead for good only 34 seconds later.
WSSU took an 11-point lead to the locker room at halftime and used the game's final 20 minutes to pull ahead by as many as 38 points en route to the victory, the Rams sixth straight win.
Head coach Philip Stitt emptied the WSSU bench with 11 minutes to play in the game and WSSU reserves increased a 28-point Ram lead to the game's final margin at 38 points as Julian Murphy-Long tallied a career-high four points, Kevin Lee tallied a career-high seven points, Andrew Porter chipped in with a career-high two points and key reserve Norman Carter recorded a career-high eight points.
The Rams narrowly missed shooting above 50% from the field for the sixth straight game as they hit 49.2% of their field goals turning in a 31-for-63 shooting performance.
With the win, the Rams, who have won six straight, move to 12-5 overall (6-2 CIAA, 2-0 CIAA West) and remain in first place in the CIAA Western Division. The Firebirds fall to 0-15 overall with the loss.
The Rams return to action in a key CIAA Western Division match-up on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at the LJVM Coliseum Annex at 8:00 pm when they battle the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University in a contest between the CIAA Western Division's top two teams. The 15th-ranked Golden Bulls suffered their first CIAA loss on Tuesday evening and will be looking for revenge against the Rams.
