Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams ran into some struggles in a 9-1 loss to the West Virginia State University Yellowjackets (3-3). The loss was a tough one as the Lady Rams struggled in all facets of the tough loss.
As a team, the Lady Rams managed just two hits in the game. Junior infielder Britney Cato recorded a hit with an RBI while sophomore Tanaya Pettus added a hit of her own. WSSU junior Nikki Lynch scored the sole run of the game for the Lady Rams.
Things got tough early for the Lady Rams as the team allowed five first inning runs to the Yellowjackets. The Lady Rams turned up their defensive efforts over the next two innings as the team allowed just one run over the two innings. However, the team allowed a pair of fourth inning runs as well as a fifth-inning run to seal the five-inning loss for the Lady Rams.
The sole WSSU score of the game came in the fourth inning when Cato hit and RBI single that scored Lynch, who reached on a Yellowjackets fielding error.
WSSU sophomore Yasmin Lee took the pitching loss. She pitched three full innings while junior Tiffany Burgess came in for the final two.
