Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams could not find any answers when the team took a 6-0 loss to the West Virginia State Yellowjackets (3-3), Monday afternoon. The Lady Rams struggled on both sides of the ball in the hard-fought loss.
As a team, the Lady Rams managed just three hits in the game with sophomore Tanaya Pettus leading the way with a pair of singles. WSSU junior Nikki Lynch also added a hit. The Lady Rams also struggled on the defensive end with 11 hits allowed to the Yellowjackets.
The game was a tough battle in the early going as the two teams were scoreless through the first three innings of the game. The fourth and fifth innings were especially tough for the Lady Rams as the team allowed five unanswered runs to the Yellowjackets. The Lady Rams allowed three fourth inning runs on three consecutive RBI doubles. In the fourth inning, the Lady Rams allowed another RBI double by the Yellowjackets and a WSSU wild pitch allowed the final run of the game to leave WSSU trailing 5-0 heading into the final two innings of play. The Lady Rams would allow one more unanswered run before closing out the tough loss.
WSSU junior Tiffany Burgess took the pitching loss, starting the game and going four innings for the Lady Rams. Freshman Monet Daly closed out the win.
