WSSU Rams Pick Up Big Road Win, 63-59, Over Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – CJ Ford scored 20 points and Demone Harrison added 11 points, five rebounds and six assists as the Winston-Salem State Rams slid past the Glenville State Pioneers 63-59 Tuesday night at the Waco Center in Glenville, W.Va.

It was WSSU's fourth win in a row, and moves the Rams to 5-2 overall, while Glenville State falls to 2-4 overall.

Winston-Salem State started the game strong, and jumped out to an early 10 point lead on the hot shooting of CJ Ford, Demone Harrison and Jerome Simmons.

The Rams eventually pushed their lead to 15 points at 24-9 midway through the first half on another CJ Ford three point shot.

Glenville State was able to cut into the WSSU lead and got it down to 10 points at the half, 38-28.

The Pioneers started the second half on fire, and used a 20-8 run to pull ahead of Winston-Salem State, 48-46 with just under 10 minutes left to play.

They would increase their lead to five points, twice, but the Rams, playing determined, battled back to regain the lead with four minutes remaining and never looked back.

Coming down the stretch run, Winston-Salem State kept their composure, and when it counted most, were able to go to the free throw line and make some crucial free throws to seal the win.

Over the final three minutes WSSU converted six of eight from the charity stripe to get the Rams a big road win over another Mountain East opponent.

Winston-Salem State played without second leading scorer, Rayvon Harris, and leading rebounder, Keith Armstrong, both out with minor injuries.

WSSU was led in scoring by senior CJ Ford, who scored a season high 20 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal. Demone Harrison added 11 points, five rebounds and six assists, and freshman William Crandell chipped in nine points and four rebounds off the bench. The Rams also got a big boost from TJ Wilson, who finished with seven points, and eight rebounds, and Carlos Rankins also added seven points and four rebounds. Jerome Simmons finished with six points and four rebounds and Jonathan Warren added three points and two rebounds.

Winston-Salem State will now take several days off to complete final exams before returning to the road next Monday night, as the Rams travel to Pembroke, N.C to take on the Braves of UNC Pembroke.
