WSSU Rams Sweep Double Header From The Chowan Hawks, 11-2 and 6-5

MURFREESBORO, NC – The Winston-Salem State baseball team swept the Chowan Hawks in double header baseball action on Monday, 11-2 and 6-5, to take the series three games to one, in games payed at Hawkins Field on the Chowan campus.

With the victories, the Rams improve to 18-6 overall and 3-1 in the CIAA, while Chowan falls to 9-12 overall and 1-3 in the CIAA.

In game one, Rashad Webster went two for four with six runs batted in, including a grand slam home run, as the Rams beat Chowan 11-2.

Jordan Carlton picked up the win, throwing a complete game allowing seven hits and two runs, while striking out seven on the afternoon.

Connor Andrus had a solid game with three hits in four at bats, scoring two runs and driving in two. Des Roberts went two for four with two runs scored and one rbi, while Alex Grubb went one for three with a run batted in. Aaron Hatch went two for four with two runs scored and a run batted in, and Nathan Steger, Colby Keene and Dylan Dombrowskas each had one hit.

The Rams scored two in the second, one in the third, two in the fifth and broke the game wide open in the seventh with a big five-run inning to blow the game open.

In game two, Winston-Salem State scored twice in the fifth inning and twice in the sixth, to overtake the Chowan Hawks 6-5.

Eric Corlett picked up the win coming out of the bullpen, pitching 3.2 innings allowing three hits while striking out seven. Devin McLemore started for the Rams, and went 3.1 innings lowing five runs on four hits with four walks and striking out six.

Colby Keene led the Rams at the plate, going two for three with two runs batted in. Des Roberts also had a great game, going two for four with three runs scored.  Connor Andrus was one for one with a rbi and a run scored, and Alex Grubb and Nathan Steger each went one four with a run batted in. Dylan Dombrowskas went one for one in a pinch hitting role.  Aaron Hatch scored twice for the Rams.

Winston-Salem State will host The Lincoln University Lions this weekend, with two games at Mando Field in Mocksville, N.C. on Saturday, and two games at BB&T Ballpark on Sunday. Game start at 1:00pm each day.
