Box Score 2 WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Winston-Salem State pounded out 26 hits on the afternoon, as the Rams completed a four game sweep of California (Pa), with a 9-6 and 13-6 double header win on Sunday at BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem.
In game one, WSSU pounded out 16 hits including two doubles, a triple and a home run as the Rams outlasted the California (Pa) Vulcans, 9-6.
WSSU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first three innings, before the Vulcans exploded for three runs in the top of the fourth.
The Rams were able to answer back with three more runs in the bottom half of the fourth, with the big blow being a two run home run from Nathan Steger to push WSSU back out in front 6-3.
Once again California came back to tie the game at 6-6, with runs in top of the sixth inning, but the WSSU Rams slammed the door with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to come away with the 9-6 win
Nathan Steger led the way, going three for four with three runs scored and two runs batted in, including a home run. Alex Grubb also went three for four with two runs batted in and one run scored, and Connor Andrus went two for four with a run scored and two rbi's. Taylor Idol went two for three with a rbi, and Michael McNamara went two for three. Des Roberts went one for three with a run scored and a rbi, and Colby Keene went one for one with a run scored and a rbi. Dylan Dombrowskas and Gavin Culler each picked up a hit, and Culler also scored a run.
Jordan Cummings picked up the win in relief, going the last two innings allowing just one hit. Aaron Hatch started for WSSU, and went 5.0 innings allowing eight hits, six runs, four walks while striking out five.
In game two, Winston-Salem State jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, and scored two runs in each of the last two innings to come away with a 13-6 win in the series finale again the California (Pa) Vulcans.
Tyler Scearce picked up the win for WSSU, going 3.0 innings in relief, allowing three hits and one run. Nathan steger went 2.0 innings allowing three hits, and five runs,a nd Hayden O'Neal pitched the final two innings allowing just two hits.
Des Roberts led the way going four for four with five runs scored and one rbi, while Colby Keene went two for four with three runs batted in and one run scored. Connor Andrus picked up two rbi's going one for two with a run scored and Alex Grubb picked up two runs batted in. Jacob Barber went one for two with a run scored and a run batted in and Phillip Page picked up a run batted in. Gavin Culler went one for three with three runs scored and Nathan Steger went zero for two, but picked up two runs scored and a run batted in. Taylor Idol also picked up one hit in the contest.
