BALTIMORE, Md. - For the first time since 1983, a player from Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team has earned Women's Player of the Year accolades.

Amaya Tucker from Winston, Salem North Carolina has been named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women's Player of the Year. Tucker has also been named to the CIAA All-Backcourt.

Tucker began the season by being named to the CIAA Pre-Season Backcourt Team. During the season she joined the 1,000-point club and became the new All-Time Career leader in three pointers. She is currently ranked third in scoring, averaging 15.6 points per game. She is ranked second in field goal percentage shooting (.433). She is ranked first in three-point field goals per game averaging 2.0 points per game. Tucker is also ranked sixth in assists, averaging 2.9 and is ranked second in steals with 2.9.

Jakaiya Mack was named to the All-Rookie Team after finishing the regular season averaging 6.0 points per game with 3.5 rebounds, 47 assists, 64 steals and three blocks. The Greenville, South Carolina Native also leads the Rams in steals and is ranked first in the CIAA in steals, averaging 2.9 steals per game. Mack was named the CIAA Women's Basketball Rookie Player of the Week twice this season including the first week of awards and the last week that the awards were announced.

The Rams will be back in action on Thursday, February 24 at noon during the CIAA Tournament. They will play the winners of the Shaw versus Claflin match-up.
