TAMPA, FL – Many student-athletes from the Winston-Salem State University women's outdoor track and field team had season-bests and great marks during the South Florida Invite.
Rainn Shepard broke the school record in the 800m with a time of 2:09.19 to finish in seventh place.
How it Happened
Brianna Benloss ran a time of 11.84 in the 100m to finish in 16th place.
Asheika Smith ran a NCAA DII qualifying time of 55.28 in the 400m to finish in 13th place.
Olivia Cosby ran a time of 56.29 (23
rd) and
Leigh Wills ran a time of 59.25 (42).
Also, running in the 800m,
Elicia Bryant came in 21st with a time of 2:15.82 and
Ava Millner came in 42nd with a time of 2:16.01.
Charnessa Reid had a NCAA DII qualifying time of 14.05 in the 100m hurdle preliminaries.
Layla Simpson ran a time of 14.53 in the 400 hurdles to finish 23rd.
The 4x100 relay team made up of
Trinity Brooks,
Brianna Benloss,
Charnessa Reid and
Asheika Smith came in seventh place with a time of 46.86.
Olivia Cosby,
Rainn Sheppard,
Asheika Smith and
Layla Simpson ran the 4x400 relay and finished in ninth place with a time of 3:47.94.
On the field side,
Lanyjah Gunter had a NCAA DII qualifying mark of 5.93m in the long jump.
Trinity Brooks had a mark of 5.77m to finish 12th and
Charnessa Reid had a season-best mark of 5.73 to finish 13th.
Leila Henderson finished eighth in the shot put with a mark of 13.64m.
WSSU will be back in action April 17-18 competing in the Aggie Classic hosted by North Carolina A&T State in Greensboro, North Carolina.
