PEMBROKE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (0-2) staged a late rally, but the team fell short in a 3-2 loss to the West Virginia State Yellowjackets (1-1), Friday evening in the UNC Pembroke Invitational. After falling behind early, the Rams staged a late rally, but a late momentum swing the other cost the Rams in the loss.

As a team, Winston-Salem State had a solid day in the game. Freshman designated player, Sydnee Brown led the way with a two-for-three performance at the plate with a run scored. Senior pitcher Katherine Zimmer added a two-for-three performance as well. Senior Rebecca Demko and sophomore Destiny Snipes both recorded doubles in the game.

Things got tough early, but the Rams would not give in. The Rams opened the game on a down note, allowing a Yellowjacket score on an RBI triple left the Rams trailing, 0-1. The score remained the same until the sixth inning when Brown hit an RBI single and forced an error to score Demko. Zimmer would return the favor when she hit an RBI single that scored Brown and gave the Rams their first lead, 2-1. However, the momentum would not last as the Rams allowed a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Neither team would score in the seventh inning and finished the day with the Rams' loss.
