Indoor Track and Field Capture Second at CIAA Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University women's indoor track and field team capture second place at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Indoor Championships at JDL located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Fayetteville State won the event with a total of 150 points, the Rams finished with 135 and Claflin came in third place with 90.

Key moments
Elicia Bryant was named the CIAA Track Athlete after finishing with 22 individual points. Numerous Rams saw the podium during the two-day event. Brianna Benloss placed third in 60m finals with a time of 7.70. Charnessa Reid finished first in the 60m hurdles (8.47), Layla Simpson won the pentathlon with a total of 3143 points and the 4x400 team (Daijion Lee, Asheika Smith, Simone Kelly, Olivia Cosby) came in first with a time of 3:50.37.

How it Happened

Layla Simpson finished in seventh in the 60mh finals (8.99).
Asheika Smith ran a season-best in the 200m finals finishing in fourth place (25.09). Teammates Brinanna Benloss came in fifth (25.36), Olivia Cosby had a season-best to finish sixth (25.40) and Daijion Lee had a PR finishing in eight with a time of 25.47.
Olivia Cosby also ran a season-best to finish third in the 400m finals (56.55). Asheika Smith had a season-best time of 56.89 to finish fifth and Daijion Lee had a PR time of 57.79 to finish sixth.
Elicia Bryant finished second in the 800m finals with a PR time of 2:17.87 and Rainn Sheppard captured third with a PR time of 2:18.49.
Elicia Bryant finished second in the mile (5:16.16), Rainn Sheppard finished seventh (5:42.99), and Jaiyah Nelson finished tenth (5:53.30).
In the 3000, Elicia Bryant finished in fourth place with a PR time of 11:19.87, Jaiyah Nelson finished in seventh (11:56.48), Tinasia Davis finished in ninth with a PR time of 12:18.69 and Kayla Nobles finished in 11th (12:18.69).
The Distance Medley team of Sheppard, Kelly, Davis and Bryant captured second with a time 13:16.11.
Reid finished third in the high jump (1.58m), Simpson finished sixth (1.53m), Amiyah Murray finished seventh (1.48m). Zoe Chesson finished in 13th (1.43m).
Reid won the long jump with a mark of 5.67m. Zaniah Field finished 15th (4.85m) and Trinity Brooks finished 16th (4.83m).
Maeghan Wallace finished eighth in the shot put (11.21m), Alaina Moody finished 16th (9.01m), and Amiyah Murray finished 17th (8.87m).
Trinity Brooks had a PR mark in the triple jump finishing in ninth (11.08m). Jasmine Higgins came in 21st (9.42m).
