CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University outdoor track and field team had an amazing day competing at the Johnson C. Smith University Collegiate Invitational.
Leila Henderson highlighted the day by breaking the school record in the discus with a personal best mark of 46.78m. Her mark is also an NCAA qualifying mark.
How it Happened
Malayasia Gabriel finished in 17th in the 100m with a time of 12.60.
Lanyjah Gunter (18, 12.68),
Trinity Brooks (24, 13.03), and
Kelis Miller (27, 13.40), respectively.
Olivia Cosby led the way in the 200m with a sixth-place finish coming in a time of 24.97.
Asheika Smith had a time of 25.13 finishing in 10th place with a time of 25.13,
Janelle Codrington had a time of 25.74,
Zaniah Field had a time of 26.44 as well as
Leigh Wills,
Simone Kelly finished with a time of 26.48 and
Kelis Miller had a time of 27.83.
Olivia Cosby finished third in the 400m with a time of 56.97, while
Layla Simpson came in eighth with a time of 59.80.
In the 100h,
Charnessa Reid captured second place with a time of 14.41, while
Layla Simpson finished in fifth place with a time of 14.83, and
Jaynissa Cauthen finished seventh with a time of 15.24.
In the 400h,
Amiliana Simmons came in eighth place with a time of 1:07.13.
The 4x100 relay team comprised of
Brianna Benloss,
Trinity Brooks,
Malayasia Gabriel and
Charnessa Reid captured second with a time of 47.87.
The 4x400 relay team made up of
Olivia Cosby,
Simone Kelly,
Asheika Smith and
Leigh Wills finished first with a time of 3:51.67 to capture first place.
Also competing in the shot put, Leila Hendson finished in first place with a 12.51m, while
Jazmin Terry had a mark of 10.98m to come in seventh,
Kaylee Thomas in 16th (9.42m), and
Zion Cosby 17th (9.37m).
The following discus marks came as,
Kaylee Thomas finishing third (39.28m),
Zion Cosby in fourth (38.95m),
Alaina Moody sixth (34.98m), and
Jazmin Terry seventh (33.45m).
When it was time for Javelin,
Terrya Montgomery came in fifth with a time of 30.88m,
Alaina Moody was seventh with a time of 24.88m.
The Rams will be back in action on April 10-11 at the South Florida Invitational in Tampa, Florida.
