WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (9-13) played hard, but the team could not get past the hard-hitting UNC Pembroke Braves (17-13) in a 9-1 five-inning loss, Wednesday afternoon.  The Lady Rams struggled on both sides of the ball as they allowed nine hits while totaling just three hits in the loss.

The Lady Rams allowed runs in four of the five innings of the game, including allowing four third-inning runs. The allowed a pair of first-inning runs, followed by a second-inning run before the third innings. After holding the Braves scoreless in the fourth inning, the team allowed a pair of fifth-inning runs. After trailing 9-0 in the fifth-inning, the Lady Rams managed a seventh-inning run to finish the game with the 9-1 score.

As a team, the Lady Rams totaled three hits in the game. Freshman centerfielder Anna Marino had a one-for-two effort at the plate while fellow freshman catcher Melissa Carillo added a one-for-one effort with sacrifice hit. Senior shortstop Katrina Bartlett was one-for two with a double and a run scored.

Sophomore pitcher Mercedes Hargett (5-8) took the pitching loss with five innings of action with eight earned runs allowed, four walks, and two strikeouts.
