CHARLOTTE, NC - The Winston-Salem State University softball team was recognized for a pair of dominating performances when four Rams earned Coca Cola Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Weekly Honors, Tuesday. The Rams claimed the Food Lion Offensive, Defensive, Pitcher, and Rookie of the Week honors for their performance at the CIAA/SIAC Challenge just over a week ago.
Winston-Salem State University senior short stop Daijah Chambers was honored as the Food Lion CIAA Offensive Player of the Week. In two games, she batted .714 with six runs scored and three doubles in the two games. She went three-for-four at the plate with three runs scored in a 13-5 win over the Clark Atlanta Panthers. She followed that effort with a two-for-three batting performance with three runs scored in a 13-0 win over Savannah State.
Joining Chambers in earning weekly honors was freshman pitcher Anastasia Morrison, who was named the Food Lion CIAA Pitcher of the Week. She put on an impressive performance in a 13-5 win over Clark Atlanta. She started the game and three four innings. She finished the game with one run allowed (one earned) on one hit with five strikeouts.
Rams sophomore catcher Aniyah Jones was honored as the Food Lion CIAA Defensive Player of the Week after a great performance behind the plate in the two games. She finished the two games with a 1.000 fielding percentage with 10 putouts and two assists. She also caught two runners stealing.
The honors didn't all go to the infield as freshman outfielder Kamryn Kirby was honored as the Food Lion CIAA Rookie of the Week. She took home the honor after batting .625 with five hits in two games. She also had four runs scored with three RBI and four stolen bases.
