WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Rams (5-8) gave a good effort, but the team struggled in a 13-0 loss to the Walsh Cavaliers (7-3), Thursday afternoon. The Rams were aggressive at the plate, but the team was stifled by a strong pitching and defensive performance by the Cavaliers.
The Rams were able to get some hits against the Cavaliers, but the team could not quite get any of its runners across the plate. The Rams were able to get singles from sophomore catcher Aniyah Jones, redshirt-freshman Anastasia Morrison, and sophomore Danielle Stradford. However, the team could not cross the plate in the loss.
The Rams defense played well for much of the game, but the team fell victim to one inning of struggles that proved to seal the tough loss. In the first inning, the Rams held the Cavaliers to just one run, but the team allowed a pair of runs in the second and third innings before allowing three fourth inning runs to fall behind 8-0. In the fifth inning, the Rams allowed five runs to the Cavaliers. In the bottom of the inning, the Rams were able to record back-to-back hits with Morrison and Stradford both notching singles. However, neither was able to cross the plate to seal the 13-0 loss.
WSSU redshirt-freshman Anasasia Morrison (3-3) took the pitching loss. She started the game and threw all five innings. She finished the game with 13 runs allowed (nine earned) on 12 hits with seven walks. She did add three strikeouts.
