GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Winston-Salem State University women's track and field team performed great at Aggie Invitational.
Highlights include multiple Rams earning season and personal bests.
Brianna Benloss achieved NCAA qualifying marks in both the 100m and 200m events, recording times of 11.75 and 24.02, respectively. These performances not only met national standards but also positioned her among the elite in Division II track and field.
Charnessa Reid secured third place in the long jump with a leap of 5.66 meters (18'7"), a mark that ranks her second on WSSU's all-time list.
How it Happened – Track
- Layla Simpson came in ninth place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:03.43. Tinasia Davis had a new PR coming in 21st with a time of 1:07.79.
- In the 200m, Brianna Benloss finished in 15th place (24.44) while teammates Oliva Cosby came in 17th (24.54), Asheika Smith finished 23rd (24.67) and Charnessa Ried finished 30th (24.91).
- In the 400m, Oliva Cosby finished in 6th place with a time of (55.40) while Simone Kelly finished 11th (56.22), Asheika Smith finished 13th (56.27) and Daijon Lee 18th (56.77).
- In the 800m, Elica Byrant (12th), Rainn Sheppard (14th), Kayla Noble (24th), Jaiyah Nelson (30th). Their times were 2:19.11, 2:21.09, 2:29.06 and 2:33.94, respectively.
- Charnessa Ried finished in 3rd place in the hurdle's finals with a new school record time of 13:32.
- The 4x100m relay team made up of Malayasia Gabriel, Brianna Benloss, Charnessa Reid and Layla Chapple finished in sixth with a time of 46.68.
- Brianna Benloss finished seventh with a new DII time of 11.74 in the 100m finals.
- In the 4x400m relay, the foursome of Daijion Lee, Asheika Smith, Simone Kelly and Olivia Cosby came in third with a season-best time of 3:41.92. The other foursome of Layla Simpson, Elicia Bryant, Briana Benloss and Rainn Sheppard finished in 10th with a time of 4:04.47.
How it Happened – Field
The Rams will participate in the CIAA Track & Field Championships, on Friday, May 2nd and Saturday, May 3rd in Durham, North Carolina.
