DURHAM, N.C. – .5 separated the Winston-Salem State University women's outdoor track and field team as they claimed the 2025 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) women's outdoor title with a total point score of 136.5 at Durham County Stadium.
The Rams last claimed the title in 2022 as they were named co-champions with Fayetteville State.
FSU finished in second with a total of 136 points and Claflin came in third with a total of 120.5. Virgina State was fourth (57.5), Lincoln came in fifth (35.5), Johnson C. Smith was sixth (32), Bowie State and Virginia Union was tied for seventh (29), Shaw was ninth (20), Livingstone was 10th (13) and Bluefield State was 11th (9).
Highlights included five Rams finishing in first place in the long jump and 100m hurdles (
Charnessa Reid), 1500m (
Elicia Bryant) and 100m and 200m with
Brianna Benloss. Head Coach
Antonio Wells was named the Women's Outdoor Coach of the Year and
Elicia Bryant was named MVP.
How it happened -
On day the one, the Rams qualified for all the running events the next day.
Bryant captured first in the 1500m with a time of 4:47.37.
Rainn Sheppard and
Jaiyah Nelson both had PR times of 5:01.88, and 5:14.61 coming in fifth and ninth, respectively.
Maeghan Wallace finished in eighth in the javelin (26.82m).
Reid finished a mark of 6.04m to capture first in the long jump.
Trinity Brooks came in seventh (5.51m), and
Allysa Fryer came in ninth (5:44m).
Trinity Brooks also came in fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.51m.
Reid also finished in third place in the high jump (1.60m).
Layla Simpson finished in eighth with a mark of 1.50m.
Amiyah Murray had a season-best mark of 1.50m to finish tied for 10th and
Zoe Chesson finished 12th with a mark of 1.45m.
Reid won the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.67 and Simpson finished in fifth with a time of 14.38.
Asheika Smith saw the podium finishing in second place in the 400m with a time of 55.45.
Simone Kelly came in fifth (57.05),
Daijion Lee in sixth (57.76), and
Olivia Cosby in seventh (1:01.29).
Benloss's first place podium finish time was 11.70 and teammate
Lydia Chapple finished in eighth with a time of 12.48.
Elicia Bryant had a PR second place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:16.42 and
Rainn Sheppard finished in fourth with a time of 2:18.12.
Simpson captured third place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.38.
It was a 1-2 finish in the 200m finals with Benloss capturing first (23.99), and Smith in second with a time of 24.51. Lee came in fifth with a time of 25.12 and
Olivia Cosby came in eighth with a time of 31.99.
Bryant came in fourth place with a time of 11:29.89 in the 3000.
Jaiyah Nelson had a PR time of 11:46.64 to capture eighth and Sheppard finished 13th with a time of 13:05.89.
The 4x400 relay team made up of Lee, Kelly, Benloss and Smith captured second place with a time of 3:48.19.
