Henry Alvin “Buddy” Taylor spent 11 years in WSSU athletics as an athletic trainer at WSSU as a part of a tremendous professional career. During his time at Winston-Salem State, he trained over 20 championship teams and helped more than 11 Rams student-athletes to reach the NFL, or other professional ranks. In 1981, he was the youngest inductee and just the third African-American ever inducted into the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Hall of Fame. He was also a two-time recipient of the Cramer Products, Incorporated Trainer Award. He also co-authored Training and Conditioning of Athletes’ Manuel for Trainers and Physicians in 1970. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Morgan State University and a Master of Science degree in Athletic Training from Indiana University. He was the first African-American to earn a Master’s degree in Athletic Training from Indiana University. He is a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
