Dr. Tommy Tyson is a distinguished alumnus of Winston-Salem State University, graduating in 1996. During his undergraduate years, he was a four-year letterman and served as Varsity Co-Captain for the 1994–1995 season. Demonstrating continued commitment to his alma mater, Dr. Tyson later returned as Head Cheer Coach for the 2003–2004 academic year and remained actively involved from 1996 to 2021 as Alumni Cheer Coach. In 2016, he served as President of the WSSU Cheer Alumni Chapter.
