C.E. "Big House" Gaines Hall of Fame
John X. Miller had a great career coaching numerous teams for the Rams. He coached the Rams’ tennis and men’s track & field team as well as serving as an assistant coach on the Rams’ men’s basketball and football teams during his career. As a track & field coach, he coached some of the greatest in school history, including Olympic track star, Leon Coleman who placed fourth in the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games as well as Elijah Gilbert, another WSSU track & field star. In addition to his coaching duties, Miller also taught Physical Education at the Winston-Salem Teacher’s College.
