C.E. "Big House" Gaines Hall of Fame
Nelson Guthrie is Inducted into the WSSU C.E. “Big House” Gaines Athletic Hall of Fame for his achievements in football. An All-Conference running back (1960-1961), Guthrie led the league in rushing both seasons and was an NAIA All-American (1961). Ranked ninth on WSSU’s all-time rushing list, Guthrie amassed an impressive 2,256 rushing yards as a Ram. Guthrie ranks sixth all-time in scoring with 162 points. Also a standout performer on the WSSU golf team he graduated from WSSU in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education.
