Hubert "Muddy Waters" Hargett

Hargett is enshrined into the C.E. Gaines “Big House” Athletic Hall of Fame for his efforts on the football field. He was a four-year starter for the Rams from 1960-63. He played on both the offensive and defensive lines for the Rams. He was honored as the team’s Rookie of the Year in 1960. He also earned All-CIAA honors both in 1962 and 1963. Upon his graduation from Winston-Salem State in 1967 he relocated to Baltimore, Maryland where he was named the Director of Recreation while earning an M.A. degree in Planning and Policy Analysis at Morgan State University. He would remain in that position for 10 years before moving on to serve as the Director of Planning and Evaluation at the North Carolina Department of Mental Health specializing in Mental Retardation and Substance abuse. He would hold that position for 14 years before serving at the Manager of Auxiliary Services at Duke University. He and his wife Annie are the proud parents of two children, Myscha and Hugh.
