C.E. "Big House" Gaines Hall of Fame
Enshrined into the WSSU CE "Big House" Gaines Athletic Hall of Fame for men's basketball, Thomas Joe Cunningham was a four-year letterman for the Rams basketball team, from 1962-66. Chosen by his teammates and coaches as the captain of the 1966 men's basketball team at WSSU, he helped to lead the Rams to the 1966 CIAA Championship en route to All-CIAA Honors the same year. As a member of two WSSU CIAA Championship basketball teams, he was named one of the Top 50 players in the CIAA in 1997 for his prowess as a rebounder and shot blocker. Cunningham played seven years as & member of the Harlem Globetrotters from 1966-73.
