Coach Gaines had a 47 year coaching career at WSSU. Kitt finished his Rams career with 1,271 points in 78 games. He averaged 16.3 points per game. He led WSSU in scoring during the 1971-72 season and again in 1973-74. His senior season was his best, as he averaged more than 22 points per game and earned All-CIAA honors.

He also helped bring “Showtime” back to Winston-Salem basketball.
