he 1892 Crew was established in 2016 by a group of Winston-Salem State University classmates, friends, and football alumni united by brotherhood, school pride, and a shared commitment to service and WSSU. What began as friends coming together to create memorable experiences has grown into a powerful tradition of fellowship, philanthropy, and RAM pride.
Known for producing some of WSSU Homecoming’s most anticipated experiences, including the Chicken Day Party and one of the most organized and energetic tailgating experiences in the land, the 1892 Crew has built a reputation for doing more than simply bringing people together. Their events celebrate the spirit, culture, and legacy of WinstonSalem State University while creating a place for the RAMILY to reconnect year after year, all while generating meaningful financial support for WSSU.
At the heart of the 1892 Crew is service. Through their efforts, the group has contributed thousands upon thousands of dollars back to Winston-Salem State University, helping provide resources and support for their beloved institution. Their commitment to philanthropy and service was formally recognized in 2024, when the 1892 Crew received the WSSU Foundation’s inaugural Simon G. Atkins Philanthropy Award for their continued support of university athletics and the institution.
Their philosophy is simple: celebrate together, strengthen the RAMILY, and remember that giving back is part of the responsibility of carrying WSSU forward. They embody the university’s enduring moto: “Enter to Learn, Depart to Serve.” Year after year, the 1892 Crew continues to raise the bar by creating bigger experiences, deeper connections, and greater impact.
1892 Crew: Brotherhood. Tradition. RAM Pride. Philanthropy.
